The Open Championship Video Golf Tips

The Open Championship - 2008

Talk about a great Open Championship. The first two rounds are truly what this tournament is all about…playing in the elements.

The Leaderboard after the second round:

  • K.J. Choi -1
  • Greg Norman E
  • Carmilo Villegas +1

K.J. Choi

Choi’s swing is not the most technically sound move on tour. However, there is something that makes his swing very effective and very consistent.

When you watch I want you to take note of how close his right elbow gets to his body. This is the key to his down swing. He makes a distinctive move to start his downswing which makes him look like he might swing over the top and hit a pull or a slice. However, he gets that right elbow tucked in beautifully so that his club is delivered to the ball on the proper bath.

If his elbow stayed away from his body then he would hit a pull slice. If you see your elbow pulling away from your hip on the down swing then watch K.J. and try to copy his position.

Greg Norman

How fun is it to write about Greg Norman? Wow! Or those who watched him in his prime…does he look any different? Not really. His swing looks almost the same.

There may be one slight difference in that his rhythm may be better than ever. When he was younger he took a mighty rip at the ball. Now, a little age has caught up and slowed that motion down. He don’t need to swing fast to hit it far. If you can control your motion back and through you will make better contact. The quickest way to adding yards is better contact. The easiest way to lower your scores is make better contact.

When you watch Norman this weekend take note as to how smooth his motion is. There is not a lot of wasted energy given to over swinging. He keeps his swing smooth. That is especially important playing in the wind. With the way the first round played there is no wonder he made his way around easier than those who tried to over power the wind.

I hope you enjoy the rest of the 2008 Open Championship. Good luck with your practicing, playing and watching. May you ‘Play Your Golf Dreams’ sooner with the help of free-golf-lessons.com.
