The 2008 AT&T National Golf Championship Video Golf Tips
2008 AT&T National
Congressional Country Club
For the Final Round I am going to focus on two players. Steve Stricker and Nick O’Hern. Both are very good players, and are striking the ball very well. They should be featured prominently in the coverage throughout the weekend.
Steve Stricker
Steve is in the lead right now after shooting a very good 66. I guess any 66 is a good 66!
When you watch his back swing, pay attention to how well he completes his shoulder turn. He gets his back to the target. He gets his chest to turn completely away from the target. He also gets his left shoulder behind his golf ball while keeping most of is weight centered between his feet. That is a great way to create power while maintaining your balance.
Golf is a game of rhythm and balance. If you can make a back swing like Steve’s you are going to have more balance and hit more consistent shots. Watch the video below to see how Stricker gets his shoulders turned while keeping his balance.
Nick O’Hern
Nick is another great player from Australia. He is also a great player for all of our lefty friends to follow. He has a nice smooth swing…a good one to try and emulate.
One thing he does very well is delay the start of his downswing. If you watch the video below; when he gets to the top of his back swing he hesitates for a moment before coming back down to strike the golf ball. This is a great way to maintain your rhythm during your downswing for great contact.
A good drill is take a pitching wedge or 9 iron and make half a back swing. When you make that back swing come to a full stop. The start your downswing and hit your shot. This will help you feel the delay that O’Hern does so well.
Quickness is great in most sports…but not in golf. You don’t ever want to be quick at the top. You need that transition to be smooth. The stop drill and watching O’Hern will help you with that.
I hope you enjoy the final round of the 2008 AT&T National. Good luck with your practicing, playing and watching. May you ‘Play Your Golf Dreams’ sooner with the help of free-golf-lessons.com.
