Can Vijay Singh continue his run at the 2008 BMW Championship? We are halfway through the FEDEX CUP Playoffs and Vijay Singh has won both the events played so far. He took the Barclay's in a playoff, then he blitzed the field in the Deutsche Bank with a 63 in the final round. He has earned enough points that he is guaranteed to be in first place for the final event. The Tour Championship will be very interesting if one of the players from the top ten in points were to win the BMW Championship this week to add the 11,000 first place points to their total.

BMW Championship Preview
The BMW Championship is the third of four legs of the playoff series. The third round of a tournament is often called 'moving day'. You could call this week the 'moving tournament' of the playoffs. Singh will want to play well to increase/maintain his lead. The top ten will be playing hard for a win, because they know that will put them in the hunt for the cup during the Tour Championship. The players sitting in 31-70 want to play well so they can crack the top 30 so they can get into the Tour Championship.

Bellerive Country Club
This country club was originally founded in 1897 as the St. Louis Field Club. In 1910 it became known as the Bellerive, and remained in it's location for 50 years. When the course moved to it's current location they called upon Robert Trent Jones to create a gem of a golf course. The course was good enough to host: 1965 US Open, 1992 PGA Championship, 2004 US Open
In 2006 the members decided to make changes to the course to modernize. They kept the architects in the family as they hired Rees Jones, son of Robert Trent Jones.
Bellerive will play as a 7461 yard par 71 layout. The course starts off pretty tame with regards to distance. The first is only a 438 yard par 4. That is followed by one of 408 yards. Then comes a 188 yard par 3. What should be fun to watch is the last four holes, particularly on the weekend. The players will have to hit accurate bombs down the stretch while they are trying to position themselves for the Tour Championship. The 15th is a 494 yard par 4, the 16th is a 235 yard par 3, the 17th is a 601 yard par 5, and the finishing hole is a par 4 of 460 yards.
I hope you enjoy the 2008 BMW Championship. Please remember to check back to this page before the 3rd round for golf tips of the leaders.
Congratulations to Steve Stricker on his victory at the 2012 Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
I believe the commentators said he has won 9 times in his 40s. That is amazing!I also agree with Sir Nick and Johnny Miller that his swing will be copied in the future. Technology has reduced the need for hand action in the golf swing to generate power. Watch the old videos of Bobby Jones to see how much action he created compared to that of Steve Stricker.
A great objective for any player is to eliminate any unnecessary movement. Stricker does a great job of that. His hands stay very quiet on the backswing. His wrists hardly hinge at the top of his backswing. You can see from the above video that his backswing is all shoulder turn.
His downswing starts from the hips and he simply turns everything through the golf ball at the same time. His hands and wrists release naturally without any effort. This is a great way to have a consistent rhythm through the golf ball on every shot. This swing delivers enough power to win on Tour.
European Tour Winner Quick Lesson
Congratulations to Louis Oosthuizen and his victory at the 2012 Africa Open.
Louis burst onto the scene with his dominating performance at the Open Championship. Many have predicted multiple wins for this player. His victory this past weekend is likely one of many to come.
In the video above pay really close attention to when the video ends. Take a look at his left foot. Notice how all his weight his on his left heel. This is a great sign that he has cleared his hips properly.
One of the key reasons for starting the downswing with your lower body is to clear your hips out of the way to create more room for your arms to swing through impact. It is a great indicator as to how well you cleared your hips, when almost all your weight is on your heel.
If your weight is leaning on you toes or even the middle of your foot then you have not rotated and cleared your hips enough through your downswing and past impact. You really want to feel the pressure of your weight on your heel like Oosthuizen.
Make sure you start your downswing with your lower body. At the top of your backswing; either pull your left knee or your left hip (right handed player) towards the target. Also make sure your hips keep rotating through impact and into your finish position with your weight on the heel.
